Ambulatory Medical Office Building
Grand Rapids, MI
52,000 Square Feet of new construction on three floors
15,000 Square Feet of renovations on three floors
Completion scheduled for spring of 2012
Project Overview
The existing 245 Cherry Street medical office building is located near Saint Mary’s Hospital in downtown Grand Rapids. After completion of several successful green-field medical office buildings for Highpoint development and Advantage Health, Elzinga & Volkers, Inc. was teamed up with Integrated Architecture to expand and modernize the largest of Advantage Health’s Ambulatory Facilities.
The project is a unique blend of new construction and office renovations. While the 52,000 SF steel and masonry addition is being built outside, medical office suites for a dermatology and weight clinic were completed inside the existing building. New exam rooms and patient hospitality areas received modern finishes and unique clerestory windows, which allow natural light into all of the office spaces. The new suites are airy and comfortable.
The new addition to 245 Cherry will more than double the buildings footprint. New construction allowed the design team to integrate new features into the building, most notable of which is a raised access floor system. The raised floor system is combined with a heating and cooling system that moves air under the occupant feet and is more efficient than pumping air from the ceiling. The floor system also allows for quicker and less intrusive renovations.
The exterior of the building will receive modern glass and metal panels in combination with traditional brick, matching the adjacent building. A new drive up canopy and signature rotunda will create a new front door for patients. Re-configurations of the existing parking lot will accommodate the increased patient traffic.
Elzinga & Volkers, Inc. is proud to be part of the 245 Cherry building expansions. The project will be a great destination for the patients of Advantage Health and Saint Mary’ Health Care.
