Project Overview

Renovations to The Lakeview of Cadillac included two new building additions, substantial renovations to two of the building’s oldest wings, demolition of an outdated resident wing, a new nurse call system and updated finishes throughout.  In the oldest sections, everything but key structural elements were removed creating a nearly clean slate for the new therapy and skills center, striking resident rooms, administration offices and shared resident spaces.  Resident rooms in this area feature new lighting, energy efficient windows, individual air conditioning controls, flat screen TV’s, vinyl-wood plank flooring and private baths with tiled European showers.

There’s also a new library with cozy reading areas and a gathering space featuring a fireplace and beautiful stone wall that was once the exterior of the chapel.  The new therapy area includes a spacious central area for rehabilitation as well as a full kitchen, laundry and bathroom on the perimeter to practice real world situations.

Upgrades to the rest of the facility include new ceilings, lighting, handrails and finishes in all the corridors, new fire protection and new finishes in the resident rooms, complete renovations to two spas, a new nurses station and new group living and dining spaces.  Within the kitchen, a new HVAC system will be installed along with new flooring and complete replacement of the failing sanitary piping.  Exterior and site renovations include a new employee parking lot and entry where the oldest wing once stood, two new entry canopies for residents and family members, and custom stamped concrete sidewalks.

The success of this project can be summed up by the teamwork between the construction team and the Lakeview of Cadillac staff.  The comfort and safety of the residents was the most important priority and careful planning and sequencing was utilized to minimize the day-to-day impact of the renovations and improvements.  While this approach can create another level of complexity to an already challenging project, it was critical to always keep resident safety and satisfaction at the forefront of our planning and execution. Elzinga & Volkers is thrilled to have been involved in such a beautiful transformation at The Lakeview in Cadillac.
